WELCOME! We are a group of citizens; parents, home
owners, community activists, etc, who support and advocate for
the Dearborn Street/Goodwill Project.
Unlike what the opponents
of the project have stated, we are a community group and have
created this website on our own accord and are not funded by
the developer in any way.

We feel this project will connect our diverse communities and add
vibrancy to an industrial, pedestrian-unfriendly area that has
suffered neglect.
Rather than seeing the project polarizing our
communities and creating barriers or gentrification, we
envision a project in which everyone can co-exist and greatly
benefit from.

Imagine walking  to a grocery store along welcoming,
pedestrian-friendly streets, meeting friends for dinner 'al fresco'
on an outdoor patio, or popping into locally owned specialty
stores. How about finding a treasure at the new Goodwill or
stopping by Target to pick up paper towels, toothpaste and other
life essentials?

Maybe you're an avid gardener or DIYer. A home improvement
store is planned. After picking up bags of tulip bulbs and a few
tools, you can walk up to Little Saigon along landscaped streets
for a bowl of warming pho.

This is the kind of realistic integration we see the Dearborn
Street Project bringing to our neighborhood.

Quick facts about the project
  • The project will meet the City's new "Green build" program
  • Goodwill will receive a new retail and training facility
  • 200 units of low-income housing are part of the project
  • A mix of local & chain stores will occupy the retail area
  • Mom & Pop stores will receive rent subsidies
  • The design is pedestrian friendly and opens up to tree-lined streets,
plaza's outdoor seating and gathering areas.
Why we're advocating. The project has been mis-represented
in the media by a coalition that opposes the current
development. Facts have been distorted and a fatalistic view of
the project has been presented. We aim to present an accurate
view of the project and want the public to receive more balance
and perspective.
In addition, many of the demands the
coalition has placed on the developer are unreasonable. The
developer has shown earnest attempts to reconcile and
compromise with the coalition – over 70 community meetings
and numerous revisions to the project have proved that!

City council will vote on a street vacation permit for the
developers late in the Fall so they can begin the project. If the
coalition has their way, the city would deny the permit or place
unrealistic contingencies on the developers.
If the City does not
permit the street vacation, the site could be developed as a
massive industrial office complex.
We don't want that!

We need more voices. If you support this project and share our
vision, It's essential that City Council know there is support for
the project.
